The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Dietitian with a passion for paediatric dietetics to further develop their knowledge and skills within the Paediatric Dietetic outpatient Service. This post involves providing specialist assessment, intervention, monitoring and ongoing support through outpatient clinics, as well as the management of children requiring Home Enteral Tube Feeding (HETF) and those with complex feeding difficulties. The post holder will work closely with children, families and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, family-centred care and improve nutritional outcomes
Although paediatric experience is preferred, we are also inviting applications from dietitians who are interested in paediatrics as a career but have perhaps not had the opportunity to work in this area yet. Funding for the BDA post-registration paediatric modules may be supported if available.
The Paediatric Dietetic Service is an integrated service with acute and community dietitians and has a team of 30 Dietitians, based across 3 sites: Royal Hospital for Children, Inverclyde Royal Hospital and the Vale of Leven Hospital. The Royal Hospital for Children is one of the largest paediatric centres in the UK and is a national and tertiary referral centre for a wide range of paediatric specialties.
Successful candidates will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team including medical, nursing and other AHP colleagues. You will work within a larger clinical team of dietitians and receive excellent peer support and opportunities for personal and professional development. You will also participate in the Scottish student clinical placement programme.
You will have a BSc in Dietetics or equivalent and be registered with the HCPC. We invite applications if you can demonstrate a core knowledge of nutrition and growth with evidence of relevant work experience and post graduate training/CPD either in paediatrics or other relevant specialties such as complex nutrition support.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

- Full-time contract (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post are Monday – Friday

Key Responsibilities
- To provide and develop a comprehensive nutrition and dietetic service to outpatients and day patients in your clinical area. To be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of your own work, including the assessment and management of your clinical caseload.
- To formulate and implement individual nutritional care/dietetic treatment programmes based on clinical judgement and using current clinical evidence, guidelines or best practice statements. This will be achieved by assessment of nutritional status, calculation of nutritional requirements, and evaluation of highly complex clinical details and results of biochemistry tests and other relevant tests and investigations.
- To monitor and review growth, intervention and outcomes on a regular basis and alter treatment as appropriate. The frequency of the review of treatment and outcomes will depend on the clinical condition and the age of the child as nutritional requirements change with age. This will be at the clinical discretion of the dietitian.
- To advise and recommend on the use of specialist medical foods and feeds in the management of patients.
- To organise and plan discharge and follow up of patients, including ensuring the necessary systems are in place to support the dietetic management at home, e.g. organisation of home enteral feeding, GP prescriptions, and school meals.
- To document Dietetic assessment and treatment in the medical and dietetic notes in accordance with Department and professional standards
- To liaise on a daily basis with staff in the Special Feeds Unit and diet bay to provide detailed instructions on special feeds, supplements and diets required for your patients
- To communicate complex patient related information and work in partnership with the multi disciplinary team and other agencies by attending and contributing to ward rounds, team meetings, case conferences and training. To prepare reports for Social Workers and Legal teams for Child Protection Cases when requested.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
Essential
- BSc (Honours) Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
- Registered with Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Full Driving Licence
- Broad range of post graduate clinical experience in an acute setting and evidence of taking on additional clinical responsibilities
- Experience in a specialist clinical area e.g Diabetes, Gastroenterology, renal, allergy, complex nutritional support
Desirable
- Post graduate training in Paediatric Dietetics, including BDA Paediatric Modules 1 & 2 or equivalent training or experience in a specialist area
