Role Overview

The Therapy team at MKUH is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our Children’s Physiotherapy Team.

Role Requirements

For the development role, candidates should have completed some post-registration clinical practice and gained core experiential learning in some or all of the following areas:

We recognise that candidates may not have completed all of these clinical domains. Applicants who can demonstrate a high level of critical thinking, self-awareness, leadership capability, and commitment to self-directed learning will also be considered.

Previous experience in paediatrics is not essential, although it would be desirable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We anticipate that successful candidates will progress to a Band 6 pay point within approximately 4–8 months, depending on previous experience, individual development needs, and available learning opportunities.

Role Responsibilities

The Children’s Physiotherapy Team delivers physiotherapy services to children and young people aged 0–19 years across both acute and community settings. There will be opportunities to work within Children’s Outpatients, primarily managing a musculoskeletal caseload. The role will also include physiotherapy in-reach to the children’s inpatient ward, as well as opportunities to undertake blocks of treatment for children and young people with neurodisability.

The post will involve working across the Children’s Physiotherapy Department at Stony Stratford Health Centre, Milton Keynes University Hospital, and Redway School. The ability to drive between these sites is essential.

As a medium-sized general hospital, we provide a full range of general medical and surgical services, including a busy Emergency Department, Maternity, and Paediatrics. As the population of our city and surrounding areas continues to grow rapidly, we are expanding and enhancing our facilities to meet rising demand and improve access to care for all our communities.

We are also proud to offer a growing portfolio of specialist services. In January 2025, we opened our state-of-the-art Radiotherapy Centre, bringing advanced cancer treatment closer to home. Our services also include neonatology, specialist surgical care, and a wide range of diagnostics, supported by the new Community Diagnostic Centre at Whitehouse Health Centre. We have just opened the Oak Wards - a new ward block featuring two 24-bed wards.

Further investment is underway, including the recently approved Women and Children’s Centre, set to open by 2030.
