Summary Of Responsibilities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

• To be a pharmacy clinical specialist in haematology.
• To provide support to the haematology service and pharmacy Technical Services.
• To support the clinical pharmacy team in the management and development of specialist clinical services related to haematology in accordance with local and national directives, guidelines and medicines legislation.
• To work closely with clinical specialists and pharmacy staff for the provision of an efficient, co-ordinated and robust pharmaceutical service for clinical haematology. To meet expectation and demands, reduce risks and improve patient safety.
• To participate in the provision of training, mentoring and supervision of pharmacy staff within clinical haematology and Technical Services, in accordance with established policies, procedures and individual requirements.
• To act as an “Authorised Pharmacist”, as delegated by the “Accountable Pharmacist” in accordance with Section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act 1968.
• To provide support to ensure that the Technical Services facilities is compliant with all aspects of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and all other relevant quality standards.
• To assist with the build and maintenance of the electronic chemotherapy prescribing system (ChemoCare®).
• To be part of the clinical pharmacy service, to inpatient wards and dispensary. To participate in late night, weekend and bank holiday rotas.

Person specification

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Degree in pharmacy
• Registration as a practising pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
• Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Certificate or equivalent

Desirable criteria

• Relevant postgraduate qualification completed (e.g. Clinical Pharmacy Diploma/MSc)

Work Experience

Essential criteria

• Recent experience of working as a UK hospital pharmacist (Band 6 or above)
• Experience of working within Technical Services and an aseptic compounding cleanroom facility subject to GMP compliance and related regulatory quality standards
• Experience of audit and quality systems
• Experience in working with a multidisciplinary team
• Experience of audit and quality systems

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working within a relevant clinical speciality (e.g. haematology or oncology)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria

• Knowledge of GMP
• Excellent time management skills
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with pharmacy staff, hospital staff and patients/carers
• Standard IT competencies in Word, PowerPoint and Excel or equivalent programs
• Training and supervisory skills
• Ability to problem solve at a level appropriate to the post

Desirable criteria

• Ability to review, process and present complex information in a clear and concise manner in a variety of formats
