Specialist Pharmacist – Mental Health
Band 7 | Permanent
Full Time – 37.5 Hours per Week | Flexible & Compressed Hours Considered
Combe Valley Hospital | Bexhill-on-Sea
£49,387 – £56,515 per annum

Who can apply
We’re looking for a registered pharmacist with:
- A Degree in Pharmacy from a British university or recognised equivalent
- Current GPhC registration
- Experience working in clinical pharmacy practice
- Experience undertaking Medicines Information queries and providing specialist verbal and written advice
- An interest in mental health and the medicines used within specialist mental health services
- Strong clinical communication skills
- An interest in patient-facing and multidisciplinary working
It would also be advantageous to have:
- Membership of the College of Mental Health Pharmacists (CMHP)
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice

The role
As a Specialist Pharmacist, you’ll provide clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation expertise across services in East Sussex, helping patients use their medicines safely, effectively and appropriately.
You’ll:
- Provide specialist clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation services
- Help ensure patients achieve the best possible outcomes from their medicines
- Promote the safe, effective and cost-effective use of medication
- Provide high-quality pharmacotherapeutic advice to clinical colleagues
- Appraise clinical evidence to support safe and informed decision-making
- Work directly with patients as part of their care and treatment
- Work closely with pharmacy colleagues across the East Sussex locality
- Contribute as a core member of multidisciplinary clinical teams
- Provide medicines information and specialist advice to healthcare professionals
- Support medicines education and training for patients, pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare professionals
- Contribute to the continued development of clinical pharmacy services across inpatient settings

- Has a strong foundation in clinical pharmacy practice
- Is interested in developing specialist knowledge of mental health medicines

- Can interpret clinical evidence and translate it into practical advice
- Is committed to safe, effective and evidence-based medicines use
- Is keen to continue developing professionally and build specialist expertise

Develop your career in mental health pharmacy
You don’t need to arrive with every specialist mental health pharmacy qualification already completed.
The pharmacy leadership team has a strong commitment to education and workforce development, with support available for further accreditation and training as appropriate. This includes access to external specialist training such as the College of Mental Health Pharmacy Psych 1 and Psych 2 programme.
For a clinical pharmacist looking to establish or continue a career in mental health, the role provides the opportunity to develop specialist expertise while working within an experienced and supportive pharmacy service.
An exciting time to join our Pharmacy Team
The Trust is also bringing its medicines supply service in-house later in 2026, with a new Pharmacy Hub at Swandean in Worthing.
The development will create further opportunities for innovation, professional development and career progression across the pharmacy workforce. Colleagues will have opportunities to contribute to the implementation and development of the new service while the Trust expands its dispensary workforce.
