An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, senior clinical pharmacist to join the Neurosciences Team at Charing Cross Hospital on a fixed-term, 12-month maternity cover contract.
The post-holder will provide clinical care for patients on our Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and neurology wards, as well as support outpatient prescribing and supply of medications within our neurology services. The post-holder will rotate between the Stroke Service and Neurology Service on the Charing Cross Hospital site.
About the Role
The successful candidate will provide a ward-focused service to a specialist cohort of patients. You must have excellent communication skills, be self-motivated and enjoy a challenge. You will identify patients’ pharmaceutical needs, assemble medication histories, reconcile medication charts, and facilitate ward-based discharges incorporating medication counselling on medication changes. You will have the opportunity to lead on service improvement and audit projects, as well as the development of clinical guidelines and standard operating procedures. You will become a key member of the ward multidisciplinary team, supporting the work of both the wards and directorate.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the provision of a homecare service to neurology patients.
- Attend daily board rounds on the neurology wards, as appropriate.
- Attend meetings as part of the multi-disciplinary team, as appropriate.
- Participate in daily consultant-led ward rounds on the stroke wards.
- Support the training of other pharmacists and ward-based pharmacy technicians to enable them to work on neurosciences wards safely, when necessary.
- Support, develop and monitor the progress of all junior/rotational staff whilst on rotation within neurosciences.
- Undertake continuing professional development (CPD) and maintain a portfolio in line with the requirements of the professional body.
- Attend appropriate courses and study days as required by the Lead Pharmacists.

Requirements
Ideally, you will have completed your clinical diploma and hold an independent prescribing qualification. The successful candidate will additionally participate in general departmental duties i.e. late duties and weekend/bank holiday working in the inpatient dispensary, as per rota requirements.
