Job Description: Physiotherapist in Elderly Assessment Unit

To provide a high-quality physiotherapy service to patients attending the Elderly Assessment Unit (EAU), delivering timely assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and discharge planning for older adults presenting with acute illness, frailty, falls, and functional decline.

Responsibilities

  • Work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), undertaking specialist assessment and management of patients with complex physical, cognitive, and social needs.
  • Support patient flow through the frailty pathway by facilitating admission avoidance, same-day emergency care, and safe discharge planning.
  • Supervise junior staff, assistants, and students.
  • Participate in service development activities and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the service.

Role Requirements

  • To assess, diagnose, and treat an independent clinical caseload.
  • To work as part of the physiotherapy team under the guidance and support of more experienced highly specialist senior physiotherapy staff.
  • To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which:
    • Engages, enables, and empowers others.
    • Uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement.
    • Facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organizational boundaries.
