The Role
As a Senior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, you will take day-to-day responsibility for a specialised musculoskeletal clinical area, managing a caseload that includes patient triage, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge from physiotherapy care. You will play a key role in planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating physiotherapy services within the musculoskeletal outpatient speciality. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, supervise physiotherapists, physiotherapy support workers and students, contribute to service development, research and audit activities, and act as an expert resource for colleagues, patients and carers. Working as part of a multi-professional team, you will help ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care while supporting the ongoing development of physiotherapy practice across the service.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- 2 x Permanent Roles
- West Dunbartonshire HSCP/East Quadrant
- 36 Hours (Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm)
Key Responsibilities
- The post holder is professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their own clinical practice and will manage a specialist musculoskeletal caseload from referral through to discharge.
- Responsibilities include triaging referrals, assessing and diagnosing a wide range of conditions, identifying patients requiring urgent onward referral, and developing and delivering individualised treatment programmes to maximise rehabilitation outcomes.
- The role involves working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, maintaining accurate clinical records, providing specialist advice and support to colleagues and service users, and contributing to service planning and development.
- The successful candidate will also undertake leadership responsibilities, including supervising staff and students, supporting quality improvement initiatives, participating in audit and clinical governance activities, identifying service pressures, and contributing to the development of policies and procedures.
- In addition, the role includes a strong educational remit through the delivery of teaching, training, mentorship and professional development activities for physiotherapy staff, students and wider healthcare colleagues.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
- Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
- Significant postgraduate experience within musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) and maintenance of a professional portfolio.
- Specialist knowledge and skills in musculoskeletal assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
- Experience of managing complex clinical presentations and prioritising referrals.
- Knowledge of current clinical governance, audit and quality improvement principles.
- Experience of supervising, mentoring and supporting staff and students.
- Ability to deliver formal and informal education and training sessions.
- Understanding of multidisciplinary and multi-agency working practices.
- Knowledge of relevant NHS policies, professional standards and codes of conduct.
- Experience of participating in research, audit and service improvement projects.
