Main Duties of the Job

This B6 physiotherapy post will give you experience in a number of acute clinical areas, where you can further develop your knowledge in acute respiratory care. These currently include acute medicine, AMU, cardiothoracics, cystic fibrosis, intensive care, OP clinics, community care and surgery. However, rotations may be added, or removed, according to service need and new development opportunities.
The main responsibilities of this B6 Specialist Physiotherapist post include:
- Working across various clinical areas to perform advanced respiratory assessments; formulate treatment plans and goal setting, with a highly diverse range of patients.
- Acute respiratory shifts including on-call, twilight and weekend shifts across both adults and children.
- Working closely with specialised MDT to allow for the seamless care of patients, and successful transitions, from the hyper acute to the home setting, facilitating safe discharge.
- Involvement in training and development, with both the therapy team, members of the MDT, students and patients/carers.
- The development of professional leadership and management skills, through on the job learning, supervision, and in-service training.
What We Are Looking For
An individual with broad experience in managing patients with respiratory illness working on acute wards.
- An individual with experience educating other professionals, patients, and carers in physiotherapy techniques for chronic respiratory illness.
- Flexibility to work at weekends within all fields of medicine and be rostered on the Physiotherapy Respiratory On-call and twilight rota, working across the acute wards.
- The ability to treat patients with care, compassion, and dignity.

For this specific specialist role, you also need the following:
Essential Skills
- Robust postgraduate experience of treating patients with acute and complex respiratory conditions in the acute setting, or equivalent, demonstrating a broad knowledge base, including use of NIV equipment.
- Proven experience in doing shifts within an acute respiratory on-call service - including intensive care, adults and children.
- Experience of managing, teaching, and supporting staff or students.
- Evidence of postgraduate development to support enhanced skills and decision making.
- Experience working alongside and supervising/mentoring support staff or students.
- Clear expressed reasoning on your application form why you want to work in this UHS B6 post.
- Knowledge and understanding of NHS procedures, ideally with personal experience.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
As this role is multifaceted and integral to the patient care journey, you will be responsible for the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with various respiratory conditions, rotating through different teams and clinical areas to broaden and deepen your knowledge and skills.
We provide a trust wide 7-day therapy service; therefore you need to be able to work weekends and bank holidays, on a rota basis. For Physiotherapists this includes our acute respiratory out of on-call hours service, which includes treating both adults and children with complex respiratory conditions in intensive care.
This post is part of the wider Therapy services department, and you will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training. You will be part of a large department of over 300 Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff, so will have peer support available to you.

- Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Experience with a variety of physical and mental health conditions/multiple pathology.
- Experience of working with support staff.
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Experience in independently managing a caseload of patients.
- Previous experience within relevant clinical area.
- Previous experience on-call, where relevant to clinical area.
