Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic imaging service across CT, general radiography, trauma, fluoroscopy and neuro angiography, working autonomously across inpatient, outpatient, emergency and GP referrals.

• Lead and coordinate the radiographic team and patient workload within allocated areas, including acting as a senior/team leader during core and out-of-hours shifts and supporting the safe and effective delivery of the service.
• Undertake a broad range of CT, neuro angiographic, general planar, trauma, fluoroscopy, and mobile radiographic examinations, including imaging in wards, intensive care, theatres, emergency and resuscitation areas, adapting techniques to meet individual patient needs.
• Practise as an IR(ME)R Practitioner and Operator, ensuring examinations are appropriately justified and optimised, radiation doses are kept as low as reasonably practicable, and all relevant radiation safety and departmental procedures are followed.
• Provide supervision, mentoring and clinical teaching to junior radiographers, student radiographers, assistant practitioners, apprentices and other staff, while contributing to induction, CPD, audit, research, quality improvement and service development.
• Ensure safe and effective patient care through appropriate assessment, communication, infection prevention, manual handling, contrast administration, emergency response and escalation of significant clinical or imaging findings.
• Work collaboratively with radiologists, radiographers, nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals to ensure the most appropriate examination is performed and urgent clinical information is communicated promptly.
• Participate fully in the departmental shift and on-call rota, including nights, weekends and public holidays, and provide senior clinical support and delegated responsibility for service delivery during out-of-hours periods.
• Work flexibly across the designated imaging sites and areas of the service, including supporting service continuity during periods of increased demand, major incidents or other exceptional circumstances within the boundaries of professional competence.

What Experience/skills Are Needed

The ideal candidate will hold a recognised qualification in Diagnostic Radiography with current HCPC registration and demonstrate relevant post-registration experience across general radiography, CT and emergency/trauma imaging.

• You will have the ability to work autonomously, prioritise competing clinical demands and demonstrate sound professional judgement when assessing and managing patients with complex or urgent clinical needs.
• You will demonstrate strong leadership, communication and team-working skills, with experience or the ability to supervise, mentor and support junior radiographers, students, assistant practitioners and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• You will have a sound understanding of IR(ME)R, radiation protection, patient safety and clinical governance, together with a commitment to CPD, audit, research, quality improvement and maintaining high professional standards.
• The successful candidate must be willing to participate in the full shift, weekend, night and public holiday rota, including out-of-hours and on-call duties as required.
• The role requires flexibility to work across the Trust's designated imaging sites and departments according to service requirements and within the individual's scope of practice and competence.
• Experience in fluoroscopy, contrast administration and intravenous cannulation, staff education, quality assurance, audit or service development would be advantageous.
• The post holder will be required to complete all relevant pre-employment checks and mandatory training applicable to the role and maintain professional registration throughout employment.

• Considerable post graduate experience in all aspects of general radiography and fluoroscopy
• Sound knowledge of IR(ME)R and IRR regulations and how to implement them
• Understanding of COSHH, Manual Handling, Basic Life support
• Proven ability to effectively adapt imaging technique when necessary
• Evidence of personal and professional development
• Previous supervisory/team leading experience
• Experience in CT imaging
• Evidence of personal development in and knowledge of cross sectional imaging
