Exciting Opportunity: Band 6 Acute Services Rotation

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Band 6 Acute Services Rotation within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

As part of our dynamic acute team, you will deliver a specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to adults across a diverse range of acute clinical settings, providing assessment and intervention for patients with complex communication and swallowing needs.

Role Overview

This rotational post spans two hospital sites: University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough. Throughout the rotation, you will gain experience across a broad range of specialist clinical areas, including:

  • Neurosurgery and Neurology
  • Neuro-oncology
  • Acute Medicine
  • Stroke

You will also participate in the Stroke weekend working rota, contributing to the delivery of a high-quality seven-day service.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist with the appropriate professional qualifications and relevant clinical experience to join our Acute Speech and Language Therapy team.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience working with adults presenting with a wide range of communication and swallowing difficulties
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to prioritise a varied caseload and work confidently in a busy acute environment
  • Adaptability, resilience, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care

Key Responsibilities

You will work collaboratively as part of multidisciplinary teams, building strong relationships with colleagues across the acute setting to support the assessment, planning and delivery of specialist interventions, as well as contributing to education and training within your clinical areas.

Support and Development

The Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is an innovative, supportive and friendly team. You will receive regular clinical supervision and support from experienced Clinical Lead Speech and Language Therapists, with opportunities to contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, audit and service evaluation.

Language

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
