Specialist Support Lead Practitioner - Pre-16 Provision
Contract: Permanent, Hours: Full time, 52 weeks per year
Are you passionate about inclusive education and supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential?
As a Specialist Support Lead Practitioner at New College Swindon, you'll lead our Pre-16 specialist support provision, working with students who may have experienced significant barriers to learning, including those who are Electively Home Educated.
You'll lead a team of specialist practitioners and work closely with curriculum teams, families, schools, local authorities, and external professionals to develop personalised support, improve access to learning, and help young people successfully progress into their next stage of education, training, and adulthood.
What you'll do
- Lead and inspire a team of Inclusion Mentors, Learning Support Assistants, and other specialist staff supporting Pre-16 students.
- Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for the Pre-16 provision.
- Lead admissions, transition, induction, and Initial Needs Assessment processes.
- Develop personalised programmes and targeted interventions to reduce barriers to learning.
- Deliver specialist teaching, tutorials, personal and social development, and enrichment activities.
- Monitor student progress, attendance, and wellbeing and ensure appropriate support is in place.
- Work closely with curriculum teams to develop accessible learning environments and inclusive teaching practice.
- Provide training, mentoring, and professional development to staff across the College.
- Work collaboratively with parents, carers, schools, local authorities, and other external professionals.
- Maintain accurate support documentation, records, and costed provision maps in line with funding and audit requirements.
- Contribute to the development of the Pre-16 provision and wider College approach to inclusive practice.

What we're looking for
- A degree or professional qualification appropriate to the role.
- A teaching qualification, or willingness to undertake one within the first year.
- Level 2 English and Maths.
- Relevant experience of teaching within the Pre-16 and/or FE sector.
- Experience of leading or coordinating a specialist area or team.
- Strong experience supporting young people who have experienced barriers to learning, including Electively Home Educated students.
- Experience of developing personalised support programmes, transition plans, and Initial Needs Assessments.
- Experience of working collaboratively with curriculum teams, families, and external agencies.
- Strong knowledge of inclusive practice, SEND, and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Experience of monitoring, evaluation, record keeping, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive, empathetic, and inclusive approach to supporting young people.
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- The flexibility to work across College campuses and occasionally outside normal working hours where required.
