About the Role
The Hearing Support Team is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People to join our highly regarded multidisciplinary service. This rewarding role involves working with children and young people aged 0-25, their families, schools, early years settings and colleges across Leicestershire to improve educational, communication and social outcomes. Whether you are an experienced Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or a teacher looking to develop your specialist expertise through funded training, this is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of deaf children and young people in Leicestershire.
You will combine individual caseload responsibilities across early years settings, schools and colleges, providing specialist assessment, advice, intervention and training. Working collaboratively with families, educational settings, health colleagues and wider SEND professionals, you will support children and young people to develop independence, confidence and effective use of audiological technology, enabling them to access learning, participate fully in their education and achieve their potential. The role will also involve contributing to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments, annual reviews and other statutory processes.
An enhanced with barred list DBS check is required for this post.

About You
To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree-level qualification and either the mandatory qualification in the education of Deaf Children and Young People, relevant SEND qualifications/experience, or willingness to undertake the funded mandatory qualification.
- Significant experience and understanding of the impact of deafness on learning, development and inclusion, with knowledge of effective teaching, learning and language acquisition approaches for deaf children and young people.
- Ability to assess needs and provide specialist advice, support and training to families, schools, early years settings and other professionals to improve outcomes for deaf children and young people.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships with children, families and multi-agency professionals.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to develop expertise in, hearing technology, specialist equipment and their application in educational settings.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing a caseload effectively while contributing to service development and improvement.
- An understanding of the responsibilities for safeguarding children and young people. The ability to actively demonstrate the values of the authority: Positivity, Trust and Respect, Flexibility, and Openness and Transparency.
