The Role

The School of Chemistry is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Specialist Research Technician to provide expert technical support across a diverse portfolio of research activities within Physical Chemistry and shared research facilities.

This is an exciting opportunity to support internationally recognised research by working closely with academic staff, researchers, and students across a range of disciplines including atmospheric chemistry, aerosol science, electrochemistry, colloid and formulation science, mass spectrometry, laser chemistry, and materials research.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the operation, maintenance, and development of specialist laboratory facilities and advanced analytical instrumentation. You will provide technical expertise to support research projects, manage laboratory equipment and infrastructure, develop safe working practices, and train researchers in the effective use of specialist facilities.

This role is ideally suited to someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, working with complex scientific equipment, and supporting cutting-edge research in a collaborative academic environment.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
