Summary Of Role

The Junior Commercial Underwriter supports the growth and quality of the Specialty Credit Mid Term (SC MT) portfolio by assisting the team of commercial and senior commercial underwriters throughout the full commercial underwriting process from deal origination to policy issuance ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with internal risk criteria.

This role requires basic underwriting knowledge, ideally with experience in the Credit and Political Risk Insurance (CPRI) market and/or the banking sector, though this is not essential.

Main Tasks

  • Support the origination of deals by liaising with brokers and clients
  • Support underwriters on a broad scope of tasks including collecting information, redacting memos, and inputting data into the SC MT in-house tools
  • Support underwriters in selecting opportunities based on Allianz Trade / SC MT underwriting criteria
  • Handle the commercial underwriting process in coordination with the risk underwriting team
  • Support the development of the business by providing clients with solutions within the framework of Commercial Underwriting rules
  • Drive growth, long-term quality, and profitability of the portfolio
  • Support the approval of terms and conditions for tailor-made solutions within delegated authorities
  • Support the review of contractual documentation and negotiate specific wordings with brokers and clients

What We Are Looking For

  • Good understanding of credit insurance mechanisms and bank products
  • Good understanding of trade-related financings for corporates, from Trade Finance to Export Finance products, and knowledge of banking transactions
  • Understanding of the CPRI market and the banking industry
  • Very good geopolitical awareness, including knowledge of emerging markets
  • Experience in credit insurance or the political risk market and/or the banking sector (not essential)
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with efficient work practices
  • Proven ability to work as a team player, contributing positively to a collaborative environment and supporting colleagues across Commercial and Risk Underwriting teams
  • Fluent English; a second language would be welcome
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including basic formulas, data manipulation, and tables) and PowerPoint (structure, storytelling, and slide design)
  • Familiarity with AI productivity tools and modern software solutions to support analysis, memo preparation, and workflow optimisation
