Job Overview
CNWL is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Specialty Doctor, based within Shore Ward at Park Royal Centre for Mental Health. This full-time position would be excellent for someone wanting to broaden their experience of acute psychiatry and develop their clinical skills in a supportive and challenging environment.
The postholder will provide overall clinical leadership for the ward’s multidisciplinary team as well as direct clinical assessments and consultations. The postholders will be supervised and supported by the ward Consultant Psychiatrists.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will have a central role in providing medical input within the well-established acute inpatient ward. He or she will work closely with the other members of the multidisciplinary team, in order to ensure that patients are provided with the highest standards of care. You will be supervised and supported by the Consultant Psychiatrist for the ward.
The post holder will be expected to ensure that any leave taken is covered by members of the clinical teams within which you work. The directorate is keen to ensure flexible working and you may be asked to undertake additional duties to maintain high quality patient care.

Brent Mental Health Service has been operating as a multi-disciplinary, integrated service since April 2001. The service relates to Brent Adult Social Services department as well as to CNWL and currently includes all generic and specialist Adult services such as forensic, inpatients, psychotherapy, and residential services, including the following:
- Acute in-patients (3 wards) – Park Royal Centre.
- Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) – organised in three locality CMHT teams (Harness, Kilburn, and Kingsbury & Willesden) serving the three primary care networks (PCNs) in the borough - 13-15 Brondesbury Road.
- Early Intervention Service - 13-15 Brondesbury Road.
- Forensic and Intensive Care Services which include Tasman Ward (Forensic Low Secure, 17 beds), Caspian Ward (PICU, 13 beds), and Java (Forensic Rehabilitation, 6 beds) - Park Royal Centre.
- Home Treatment Team (HTT) - Park Royal Centre.
- Mental Health Act Team (AMHP Team) - Park Royal Centre.
- Psychology and Psychotherapy Services including Clinical Psychologists embedded in the CMHTs and inpatient unit, Arts Psychotherapy, and other specialist family and individual psychotherapies - 13-15 Brondesbury Road.
- Range of rehabilitation services, supported tenancy schemes, and residential care services.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
- Assessment (including assessment of risk), treatment, and management of adults with mental health problems (functional and organic)
- Treatment, using a sound knowledge of the evidence for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, in accordance with NICE and relevant guidance
- Formulating psychiatric opinions about a bio-psycho-social care plan
- Full participation in the multidisciplinary team providing care on the ward
- Review and monitoring patients to ensure discharges are facilitated to maintain patient flow
- Contribution to care quality through quality improvement (QI) projects and relevant participation in local and Trust-wide care quality processes
- Active involvement in teaching of undergraduate medical students
- Supervising the clinical work of the trainee and multidisciplinary colleagues
- Liaison with HTT, Psychiatric Liaison Services, AMHP services, and Forensic Services in and outside the borough.
- Provide support to staff in the different applications of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act
- Supporting the MDT team to provide the best clinical care for patients
- Accurate record keeping according to the Trust’s and professional guidelines
- Supporting the Consultant Psychiatrists in chairing ward rounds, MDT, CPA, professionals, and best interest meetings and preparing medical reports for MHA Tribunals/Managers Hearing.

- Primary Medical degree
- Full GMC registration

- Completed at least four years full-time post-graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed-term trainee or have equivalent experience and competencies.
- Extensive experience in the management of a broad range of relevant mental disorders in older adults
Desirable criteria
- Experience in managing patients from different cultural backgrounds
- Working with interpreters and translation services

- Experience in teaching junior doctors and other professional groups
