ENT Department Overview
The ENT Department forms part of the Head & Neck Department (along with Ophthalmology and Maxillo Facial Services) within East Kent Hospitals. The Head and Neck department is part of the Critical Care, Anaesthetics, & Specialist Surgery Care Group. The Associate Medical Director for the Care Group is Mr. Nic Goodger, Consultant. For ENT, the Deputy General Manager is Miss Katie Harrison, and the ENT Clinical Lead is Mr. Chris Theokli.
This service is centralized alongside Ophthalmology inpatient, Maxillofacial Surgery, and emergency services at The William Harvey Hospital. All three departments share a subspecialist Head and Neck Ward at William Harvey Hospital.
The ENT team is comprised of 13 Consultants working alongside 6 Specialty Doctors, 5 Specialist Registrar’s, 6 teaching grades, 3 Trust Doctors, and 4 Nurse Practitioners across the sites. We offer 27 days’ annual leave and active support for study, quality improvement, and patient safety work as part of our ‘We care’ improvement journey, and medical education and research.

Responsibilities
- Provide support to GPST2, F1, F2, CT1, CT2 in maintaining A&E Gold Standards and breach rules.
- Provide clinical/observational/prescribing support to NPs (nurse practitioners) working in adjacent clinics.
- Elective work – day-to-day cover of all patients admitted under supervising Consultant.
- Provide clinical support/review of any patient requiring ENT input as an Inpatient on either of the 2 acute sites.
- Contribute to the overall service delivery and performance of the ENT Department.
- Provide support and training to junior staff, but have the ability to work and manage patients independently.
- Confidently consult, diagnose, and work up a treatment plan for cancer, adult & paediatric general ENT patients.
- Co-ordinate, communicate, and work as a team with other available Grades within the department.
- Ensure that records of patients in your care are accurate, up to date, legible, and signed.
- Prompt response to administrative requests and reviews.
- Endeavour to ensure that no more than two members in any one grade are absent at any one time. Approval of leave is at the discretion of the department and is dependent upon the continuity of patient care.
