Applications are invited for a fixed term contract for Specialty Doctor to cover maternity leave from 30.7.26 to 29.7.27.

Job Responsibilities

Under the supervision of senior clinicians, the post holder will be required to support the provision of patient care, including the following duties:

  • Assist in the routine care of patients, undertaking examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning, both on the ward and in the outpatient department.
  • Participate in ward rounds and then monitor the progress of inpatients.
  • Undertake effective handover of patients to colleagues.
  • Maintain appropriate patient records both written and electronic, ensuring all written records are legible and dated.
  • Assist or perform inpatient operative procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Perform minor oral surgical procedures in the outpatient setting.
  • Prescribe and administer treatment in line with departmental guidelines and competence.
  • Examination and diagnosis of patients in outpatient clinics, including cancer and new patients.
  • Review patients on consultant clinics.

The appointment is to the Trust, not to specific hospitals.

All employees, including the appointee, will be expected to be involved in implementing the Trust’s Clinical Governance programme. This includes active participation in clinical audit, quality, clinical guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal, and risk management.

On-Call

On-call activity is exclusively at Norfolk and Norwich, accepting both local referrals and regional referrals from allied units in Great Yarmouth, Kings Lynn, and Ipswich hospital.

The rota is based on an approximately 1:11 non-resident out-of-hours on-call, providing weeknight and weekend cover. Compensatory rest is included following on-call, and hours are monitored in line with SAS contracts. The on-call duties are to provide the first tier on-call cover for the Maxillofacial service with Consultant for senior support.
