Ideal Opportunity for Palliative Medicine
This is an ideal opportunity for anyone with an interest in Palliative Medicine, either as a career or to support careers in General Practice, General Medicine, Oncology, Haematology or Care of the Elderly Medicine.
Role Overview
The job will involve day to day management of an inpatient hospice unit and will provide experience in the assessment and management of people with a life limiting illness and consequent complex care needs. The post holder will practise and enhance knowledge and skills relevant to holistic care including symptom control, advanced communication skills, advance care planning, discharge planning and working within a multi-disciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Management of inpatients at Cynthia Spencer Hospice, and at times at Cransley Hospice
- Assume appropriate senior clinical responsibility when consultants are away on annual and study leave or sick leave and liaise with the appropriate colleague providing consultant cover
- Management of hospice waiting list and bed prioritisation
- Taking referrals for the hospice inpatient units in rotation with specialty doctor and specialty registrar colleagues
- Support resident doctors during their hospice rotation
- Participate in 1st on call rota for out of hours medical cover
- Participate in postgraduate education activities in the department, which is one afternoon every 2 months
- Actively participate in the development and implementation of clinical governance in the Trust supported by the Clinical Governance Support Team/clinical audit programmes
- Participate in yearly appraisal process
