Specialty Doctor in Palliative Care 0.6 WTE
The HDFT Palliative Care Team (PCT) provides multidisciplinary advisory support for hospital and community adult patients with advanced, progressive life-limiting illnesses who require Specialist Palliative Care (SPC). SPC input may be sought where the focus of care is on quality of life, and for patients who have unresolved complex needs that cannot be met by their current care team. These needs may be physical, psychological, social and/or spiritual.
The team is employed by HDFT and is based at Harrogate District Hospital. The service is provided Monday to Friday 8:00–16:00. Team members work predominantly in either hospital or community but provide cross cover for each other as needed. The team works closely with Saint Michael’s Hospice and other providers of PEoLC across the locality.
This role will work predominately in the community to support the team to provide support to the Macmillan Community Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialists, whilst managing a small caseload of patients. Although the post is community based, cross cover for the hospital-based service will form part of the role requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
