Job Overview
We are seeking to recruit an ambitious and motivated Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry to join our Inpatient Team in Luton and Bedfordshire.
Successful applicants will have at least 3 years of experience working in psychiatry, and will ideally be Section 12 approved.
ELFT is a teaching Trust, rated Outstanding by the CQC which provide Mental health and Community Service across East London and Bedfordshire.

There are a number of potential Specialty grade doctor potential posts are available, meaning that a successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a variety of different settings and locations, with flexibility to work in a post aligned to your area of interest.
The post-holder will work under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist and will be integral to a multidisciplinary team, accessing local CPD activities as appropriate. The post-holder will have the opportunity to rotate through different posts on a yearly basis according to service needs, offering opportunities for developing clinical expertise across a range of specialities.
Main Duties of the Job
10 PAs/ Flexible
The Specialty grade doctor will work closely with the consultant psychiatrist and Multi Disciplinary team, and will provide clinical support for the assessment and management of mental health problems on a routine and emergency basis. On average 9 Programmed Activities per week will be devoted to Direct Clinical Care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
Desirable criteria
- A higher degree such as MD or PhD
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
- Eligible for Approved Clinician Status
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- At least 6 years experience post medical qualification with 3 years’ experience within psychiatry
- Appreciation and understanding of social and cultural factors relevant to psychiatric practice
- Experience of and commitment to clinical care of individuals with severe and enduring mental health conditions
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clinical work in Acute Adult Psychiatry
- Experience of Quality Improvement projects & Clinical Audit
- Good working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
Organisational Skills/ Abilities

- Ability to work as a part of multidisciplinary, multi-model team
- Ability to manage complex workloads and support others to do that
- Consultation skills to services, teams and individuals
