Job Overview

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join a highly motivated team of clinicians providing high quality sexual health and HIV care as part of one of the largest sexual health services in the country. The post holder is required to provide face to face clinics at both Buryfields Clinic as well as Woking Clinic.

The post holder will work closely with other members of the sexual health team to ensure delivery of high quality integrated sexual health services. The post holder will be expected to deliver training to staff depending on their experience and expertise.

Applicants must have experience in UK sexual health and hold Letter of Competence Intrauterine Techniques (LoC IUT).

Main Duties of the Job

  • To provide clinical services at CNWL sexual health clinics
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver level 1, 2 and 3 contraception and community STI screening services, as specified by commissioners, and in accordance with the values and standards of CNWL and the GMC.
  • To work in other CNWL sexual health service sites in Surrey (as required), including the provision of level 3 complex contraception and integrated sexual health.
  • To take part in audit, research and training and administrative duties as appropriate and as defined in job plans.
  • To develop skills in line with the changing needs of the service.

The CNWL sexual health and HIV service provides services across Surrey, Camden, Islington, Barnet, Haringey and Tri-Borough. The Surrey services will be delivered in accordance with the service specification and will aim to deliver service using technology to support innovation, efficiency and enhance patient experience.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust’s service, and depending on your job plan, you will be required to have flexibility to work in other hub clinics in Surrey. The Trust reserves the right to change your normal place of work to any other CNWL Sexual Health Sites in Surrey.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Clinical and Managerial Responsibilities

  • To undertake the clinical and administrative duties outlined in the job plan - to be agreed on appointment and reviewed regularly.
  • To provide patient-centred, high quality contraceptive and sexual health care ensuring that patients are well informed and able to participate in their care, including women in early pregnancy requesting onward referral.
  • To be responsible for maintaining satisfactory patient records. This will include entering of relevant data into both paper-based and electronic patient records.
  • Provide relevant sexual health promotion to women and men.
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to include liaising with nurses, management, administrative and laboratory staff as required for the optimal management of all patients.
  • To support the consultant team within other areas of service in the delivery of specialist services where required.
  • To refer patients where appropriate and as determined by the service specification – this includes in-house referral to specialist clinics for those with complex / complicated contraceptive issues and / or for those with symptoms of STIs.
  • Carry out treatment and partner notification for uncomplicated STIs diagnosed within the service, in accordance with the clinic guide.
  • To treat all patients in a sensitive and non-judgmental manner.
  • To maintain confidentiality in accordance with national and local policies.
  • To be available for advice as agreed in the job plan and to give medical advice to junior medical staff, nursing colleagues, local pharmacy and general practice teams.
  • To take responsibility for designated management tasks as agreed with the Lead Consultant.
  • Participate in the induction of new members of staff.
  • Fulfil the requirements for appraisal and revalidation as set out by the Department of Health.

Teaching and Training

  • To take an active role in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training provided by the Service.

Clinical Governance

  • To work to ensure risks and hazards to patients are reduced to as low a level as possible.
  • To work with other members of the team to ensure that evidence from research is systematically considered and practices changed as appropriate.
  • To work within Trust Policies and Procedures.
  • To participate in, or lead, audits of clinical care as agreed with the Audit / Quality Lead for the service.
  • To assist in the collection of data for service management and for statutory reporting.
  • To participate actively in the wider clinical governance programme of the Trust.
  • Participate in the Departmental CPD programme as required.
  • To fulfil requirements for recertification of qualifications as laid down by the relevant Royal College or Faculty.
  • To complete mandatory training requirements as laid down in Trust policies.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Full GMC registration
  • Basic medical qualifications
  • DFSRH
  • LoC SDI (Essential or a willingness to learn)
  • LoC IUT (Essential or a willingness to learn)

Desirable Criteria

  • Dip GUM

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in Sexual Health
  • Experience in providing contraceptive, sexual & reproductive healthcare
  • Completed at least 3 years core trainee (CT) grade or as a specialty doctor (or equivalent) within sexual health

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in O&G or General Practice
  • Clinical teaching / lecturing, including MedEd or equivalent

Research and Audit

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrate an understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Evidence Based Medicine

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of Clinical Audit / Research
