Job Opportunity: Specialty Doctor in Medicine of the Elderly
About the Role
NHS Lothian welcomes applications for the position of Specialty Doctor in Medicine of the Elderly based with the Rapid Assessment & Care Team (REACT), St John’s Hospital, Livingston.
Responsibilities
This role comprises 2 sessions based in the Rapid Access Frailty Clinic, working synergistically with the award-winning West Lothian Hospital at Home Team to provide:
- Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments (CGA)
- Proactive frailty assessments and interventions to improve patient outcomes and avoid acute hospital admissions
There is full access to diagnostic facilities and specialist input from the wider Medical Unit at St John’s Hospital, close support from Consultant Geriatricians, as well as multidisciplinary team working with nursing and allied health professionals.

Additional Duties
As well as clinical duties, this post will have a commitment to the delivery of:
- Undergraduate teaching
- Postgraduate training within Medicine of the Elderly at St John’s Hospital
Other non-clinical interests are encouraged, for example:
- Management
- Education
- Quality improvement
- Service development
- Research
Individual continued professional development and subspecialty interests will also be fully supported.
Working Hours
Working day and pattern can be negotiated and we welcome enquiries from anyone considering this post as part of their professional development to complement other existing roles, for example as a General Practitioner, or Specialty Doctor in another field.
