Role Overview
To provide high quality, safe and effective physiotherapy services to older adults presenting with acute and chronic complex vascular and surgical conditions as part of a cohesive multi-professional team.
Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with patients and their carers to effectively assess, goal plan, and treat patients following admission to hospital and strive to maximise their independence and quality of life.
- Supervise and teach recently qualified physiotherapists, support workers, physiotherapy students.
- Actively participate in quality improvement, clinical audit, and research projects.
Detailed Duties
- Deliver high-quality physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for patients with vascular and surgical conditions, developing evidence-based, patient-centred care plans and evaluating progress against agreed goals.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, carers, and the multidisciplinary team, using strategies to overcome communication barriers and support informed consent, mental capacity assessments, and best-interest decisions where required.
- Maintain accurate electronic clinical records and manage clinical risk in line with professional, legal, and Trust standards, including manual handling and safeguarding.
- Coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to support safe discharge and continuity of care.
- Demonstrate advanced assessment, manual therapy, and rehabilitation skills while managing complex presentations.
- Represent physiotherapy at MDT meetings and contribute to coordinated patient care.
- Organise and prioritise workload, adapting to changing clinical demands.
- Support the safe use of rehabilitation equipment and supervise, teach, and appraise junior staff, assistants, and students, deputising for senior staff when required.
- Contribute to education, maintain continuing professional development, apply current evidence to practice, and participate in quality improvement, clinical audit, and service development to ensure compliance with national and local standards.
