Help a Child Find the Confidence to Communicate
Imagine knowing what you want to say but struggling to find the words.
Finding it difficult to follow instructions that other pupils seem to understand immediately.
Or wanting to join a conversation but not knowing how.
For children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), those difficulties can affect far more than communication. They can influence learning, friendships, confidence and a child's entire experience of school.
Refine Education is looking for an experienced Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a school in Bethnal Green.
This is a specialist role for someone who already has practical SLCN experience and wants to build on it.
Turn Communication Strategies Into Everyday Progress
You'll work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and, where appropriate, a Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to ensure communication support isn't limited to an intervention session.
You'll help pupils use those skills throughout their school day.
Your Role Will Include
- Delivering structured 1:1 and small-group speech and language interventions.
- Following programmes developed by teachers, SENCOs and Speech and Language Therapists.
- Supporting pupils with receptive and expressive language.
- Developing vocabulary, understanding and social communication.
- Reinforcing communication strategies within classroom learning.
- Helping pupils communicate their needs with greater confidence.
- Monitoring progress and sharing observations with the wider team.
- Supporting individual EHCP outcomes relating to communication.
- Adapting your approach around individual SLCN profiles.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
