Speech and Language Therapist

Permanent

Lancaster & Blackpool

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join a specialist multidisciplinary team supporting young adults aged 18-25 with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, sensory needs, and communication difficulties.

This role will focus on helping students access learning, develop communication skills, and maximize independence within a Total Communication Environment.

The role will involve:

  • Managing a caseload of students with complex communication needs and dysphagia
  • Assessing, planning, and delivering evidence-based SaLT interventions
  • Developing person-centred communication plans
  • Supporting AAC, Makaton, Intensive Interaction, and total communication approaches
  • Promoting communication-rich learning environments
  • Supporting admissions assessments, transition planning, and reviews
  • Delivering communication and dysphagia training to staff
  • Providing specialist advice to education and support teams
  • Working closely with OT, Physiotherapy, PBS, education, and care colleagues
  • Maintaining clinical records, reports, and professional standards

We are looking for someone with:

  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Experience supporting individuals with complex communication needs
  • Knowledge of AAC and total communication approaches
  • Experience assessing and managing dysphagia
  • Strong communication, organization, and report-writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable experience:

  • Experience supporting young adults with learning disabilities, autism, or complex needs
  • Experience delivering staff training and consultancy
  • Knowledge of education or residential care settings
