The Role
We are looking for a full-time Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6) to join the East Renfrewshire Learning Disability Service. As part of an integrated health and social work team, the successful candidate will provide a specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to adults with learning disabilities, mental health difficulties, and eating, drinking, and swallowing disorders. Working as an autonomous practitioner, you will manage a complex caseload and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. The role also includes providing specialist assessment, direct intervention, and consultation to families, service providers, and healthcare professionals.
All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Fixed-term 1 year
- Full-time 36 hours per week
- Shift pattern - Monday - Friday, hours to be confirmed
- Base location - Barrhead Health and Care Centre
Key Responsibilities
- Provide highly specialised SLT assessments and interventions.
- Deliver care to adults with learning disabilities, mental health difficulties, and eating, drinking, and swallowing disorders.
- Manage a complex and specialist caseload independently.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members.
- Provide indirect interventions and consultation to families, service providers, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Contribute to person-centred care planning and service delivery.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required
- Specialist knowledge and skills in Speech and Language Therapy.
- Experience in supporting adults with learning disabilities and associated mental health needs.
- Knowledge of assessment and management of eating, drinking, and swallowing difficulties.
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Clinical supervision provided by the Speech and Language Therapist Professional Lead Specialist Learning Disability Services.
- Line management provided by the Learning Disability Health Team Lead.
