The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Glasgow Community Stroke Team.

This post will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to work autonomously to manage their clinical caseload and deliver a comprehensive Speech and Language Therapy service to clients across their stroke recovery pathway, and to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

We are excited to offer this post for an enthusiastic and motivated therapist who is keen to participate in the development and delivery of new innovative approaches to therapy. Candidates require stroke experience, desirable in an acute/ rehabilitation/ community setting. The applicant must be Dysphagia Trained and have experience of working with adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties, with well-developed interpersonal skills and supervisor/ clinical educator experience.

The Community Stroke Team office is located in the North East Sector Offices (within the grounds of Stobhill Hospital). This post requires an element of agile working- visiting client’s homes across Greater Glasgow.

It is essential that you have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy with current HCPC registration and hold a valid UK driving licence.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

• Location: based in North East Sector Offices
• Part-time position: (21.6 hours per week)
• Permanent Contract
• Shift pattern: for this post will be Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities

• To be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work, including direct and indirect patient care, within scope of practice
• To assess capacity, gain valid consent and has the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent.
• Act independently to assess and analyse individual patients to determine their need for Speech and Language therapy intervention within specialist area of stroke through client centred practice. This will include patients with multiple pathologies and complex clinical presentation.
• Act independently to plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care to maximise their rehabilitation potential including decision making regarding discharge from care.
• Manage an identified caseload of patients effectively and efficiently for physiotherapy intervention. May be identified as a key worker within the inter-disciplinary team for goal planning.
• Communicate effectively, work collaboratively with and make recommendations to all relevant colleagues to maximise patient care and promote effective multi-disciplinary working. Actively participates in MDT meetings, which includes clinical review and goal setting.
• Undertake screening of referrals and multi-professional baseline assessment to identify areas of need across range of professions.
• Keep abreast of developments in speech and language therapy and other related professional practice by personal study, in-service training and external courses
• Incorporate additional skills gained from Continuing Professional Development (CPD) into clinical practice and disseminates to others.
• To contribute to and ensure that a comprehensive in-service training programme is provided to other members of the inter-disciplinary team to promote the knowledge of speech therapy.
• To participate in education courses relevant to Speech and Language therapy service and to own individual area of specialist knowledge and skills and to provide feedback to relevant colleagues.
• To provide both spontaneous and planned highly specialist advice and teaching to staff and others (e.g. relatives and carers; voluntary sector and other agencies) to promote knowledge of Speech and Language therapy management to enhance patient care.
