Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) – Part-time
Clinical Services Team – Multiple School Sites
We are seeking a skilled, reflective, and compassionate Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to join our growing Clinical Services Team on a part-time basis (3 days per week), working across multiple specialist school sites. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Band 5 SaLT looking to consolidate and develop their skills within a supportive, reflective, and multidisciplinary environment. You will work alongside an experienced SaLT and a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SALTA), supporting children and young people with complex social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
This role is ideal for a therapist who values trauma-informed practice, relationship-based approaches, and functional, meaningful outcomes, and enjoys contributing to a wider multidisciplinary team.
About New Forest School
New Forest School is an independent specialist school on the edge of the New Forest, Hampshire, supporting children and young people aged 8–16 with complex needs, including autism, attachment difficulties, developmental trauma, and SEMH presentations. We provide a therapeutic, nurturing, and child-centred approach to education, with strong collaboration between education and clinical teams.
The Role
As part of our Clinical Services Team, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based speech and language therapy to support students’ communication, learning, emotional regulation, and wellbeing. Responsibilities include assessment, direct and indirect intervention, group work, contribution to EHCP processes, staff training, and CPD opportunities.
This post is ideal for a Band 5 SaLT who is motivated to develop their skills and grow within a specialist school setting, with strong support and supervision available.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
- Assess speech, language, communication, and interaction needs using standardised and non-standardised tools.
- Develop, implement, and review individualised SaLT intervention plans.
- Deliver direct and indirect interventions, including 1:1, small group, and class-based support.
- Provide communication-focused input to support emotional regulation, social interaction, and engagement in learning.
- Write clear, functional reports to inform EHCPs, annual reviews, and multi-agency meetings.
Collaborative Working
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary Clinical Services Team.
- Contribute to MDT meetings, clinical discussions, and joint planning.
- Liaise effectively with teaching staff, parents/carers, and external professionals.
- Provide regular feedback and guidance regarding student progress and outcomes.
Support & Development of SALTA
- Provide clinical support, opportunities for observation, and CPD for a named Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SALTA).
- Monitor delegated programmes and support accurate data collection.
- Make effective use of supervision and line management.
Training & Capacity Building
- Deliver staff training on relevant speech, language, and communication topics.
- Support the development of communication-friendly and regulation-supportive environments.
- Provide informal coaching to help staff embed SaLT strategies into daily classroom practice.
Professional Standards & Service Development
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with GDPR, HCPC, and RCSLT standards.
- Manage and prioritise a caseload across multiple sites.
- Engage in CPD and maintain evidence-based practice.
- Uphold professional ethics and standards at all times.

Essential Requirements
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
- HCPC registration and RCSLT membership.
- Ability to work independently across multiple school sites.
- A full driving licence and access to a car are essential, as travel between school sites is required.
Desirable / Advantageous
- Experience working with children and young people with complex needs, ideally within SEMH or trauma-informed settings.
- Understanding of social communication difficulties and developmental language disorder.
- Experience contributing to EHCPs or multi-agency working.
- Confidence delivering staff training and consultation.
- An understanding and awareness of different AAC (Augmentative & Alternative Communication) systems, and familiarity with using symbol-software.
