Specialist School – Autism & Complex Learning Needs | Early Years
Full Time (Mon-Fri) | Term-time only – 41 weeks per year
£45,000 – £50,000 FTE (Pro-rata to £35,481 – £39,423 per annum) + £1,500 Location Allowance

Overview:
Compass Associates is excited to be collaborating alongside a well-established specialist provider of education and care services for children and adults with complex needs associated with autism and learning disabilities.
They operate a number of specialist schools and services across Wales, bringing together education, care, and clinical expertise to support the individual needs of the people they work with. Their established clinical function includes Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Behaviour Specialists, and Consultant Psychiatrists, with a strong emphasis on professional development and developing specialist clinical skills.
Together, they are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join a specialist school near New Radnor, North Wales (Powys/Herefordshire border), supporting pupils with autism, cognition and learning needs, and associated complex communication difficulties. The role will combine direct clinical intervention with consultation, staff development, training, and wider multidisciplinary working, with a particular focus on embedding effective communication strategies within the pupils' everyday education and care.

Work Pattern:
- Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
- Term-time only – 41 weeks per year.
The successful candidate will be based at one specialist school, with an additional opportunity to provide remote supervision and mentoring to Speech & Language Therapy apprentices based at other specialist schools within the organisation.
Location:
The role will be based at a specialist school in and near New Radnor, Powys, within easy reach of the Herefordshire border and Hereford.
The school is set within a rural environment and provides a joined-up approach to education and care, with approximately 60 pupils currently attending.
The school supports pupils aged 4–19, with the current cohort predominantly comprising early years children and young people (ages 4-6) with autism, cognition and learning needs, and associated complex needs.
Criteria:
- HCPC Registered as a Speech and Language Therapist
- Approximately 2–3 years' post-qualification experience or more
- Experience of providing therapy to children and young people
- Ability to provide advice, guidance, and training to wider staff teams
- Experience in areas such as AAC / high-tech AAC, Makaton, or similar communication approaches, staff training, supervision, coaching, mentoring, and multidisciplinary working would also be advantageous.
Interview Process:
This will typically be a two-stage process, beginning with an initial introductory meeting, followed by a formal interview with the Managing Director and Head of Clinical Services.
The formal interview can take place via Teams or face-to-face depending on the candidate's location and circumstances.

Salary and Benefits:
This Speech and Language Therapist role is paying £35,481 – £39,423 per annum, after pro-rata adjustment due to the term-time only contract, equivalent to approximately £45,000 – £50,000 FTE, plus a £1,500 annual location allowance, and includes a strong benefit and professional development package:
