Company Description

Estates & Facilities are the stewards of King’s extensive property portfolio that enables innovative teaching and pioneering research across five campuses in central London. Made up of over 1,000 talented staff with a wide variety of roles servicing our campuses and community; together we ensure that students and staff have the estate, space, and services that enhance their academic experience while preserving and future proofing our iconic estate as King’s approaches it’s bicentenary.

King’s Sport & Wellness aims to connect with our communities to help them find their personal best, delivering distinctive, inclusive and sustainable sport and wellness experiences that unite our communities, enable student and staff success and generate positive impact for King’s and society.

In support of this ambition, the Waterloo Sport & Wellness Centre was established in 2022 and provides a key environment for the delivery of our services and programmes, increasing opportunities for our communities to be physically active and supporting physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing and a strong sense of belonging.

Role Description

The Sport and Wellness Coach is a full-time, on-site role based in London, supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of students and staff through structured coaching, guidance, and programmes. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Designing and delivering sport, fitness, and wellness sessions
  • Providing one-to-one coaching
  • Facilitating group activities that promote healthy lifestyles
  • Assessing participants’ needs
  • Developing tailored plans
  • Monitoring progress
  • Adapting activities to be accessible and inclusive

The role involves collaborating with campus services, student support, and health and wellbeing teams to integrate sport and wellness initiatives across the university. Additional duties include:

  • Maintaining safe facilities
  • Promoting events and programs
  • Collecting feedback
  • Contributing to outreach and engagement activities aligned with King’s wellbeing strategy

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in sport coaching, fitness instruction, or wellness coaching, with a strong understanding of exercise planning and safe training practices.
  • Knowledge of holistic wellbeing, including physical health, mental health, stress management, and lifestyle habits, and ability to integrate these into coaching programs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate, support, and build trust with individuals and diverse groups.
  • Experience working in educational, community, or campus environments, with a commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and non-discriminatory practice.
  • Relevant professional certification in fitness, coaching, sport science, or wellness (e.g., personal training qualification, coaching badges, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Organizational and time-management skills to plan sessions, manage multiple programs, and maintain accurate records of participation and progress.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, and to contribute to the development of sport and wellbeing initiatives across the institution.
  • Understanding of health and safety standards in sport and fitness settings, including risk assessment and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Comfort with using digital tools for scheduling, communication, tracking outcomes.
