Join AAAsports as a Sports Coach Apprentice
Gain hands-on experience across coaching, customer service, administration, events, and facility operations. You will support classes, members, and the wider team while completing a Level 2 Community Activator Coach apprenticeship with training and mentoring.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
As an Apprentice Sports Coach, you will play an important role in creating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for members and their families. You will support the delivery of classes, camps, competitions, and events while learning the skills and knowledge needed to become a confident and capable coach.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare activity areas and safely set up equipment before classes.
- Welcome members, parents, and carers, providing friendly and professional customer service.
- Assist with registrations, attendance checks, and maintaining class registers.
- Support qualified coaches with warm-ups, activity delivery, demonstrations, and cool-downs.
- Encourage and motivate members, providing positive feedback and helping them work towards their individual goals.
- Record member progress accurately using the AAAsports Skill Tracker.
- Ensure members are collected safely at the end of their classes.
- Respond to enquiries and assist with bookings, telephone calls, emails, and general administration.
- Support the planning and delivery of camps, competitions, courses, parties, and other AAAsports events.
- Carry out equipment checks and report any damage, hazards, or safety concerns.
- Help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming facilities, including activity areas, reception spaces, and equipment.
Throughout the apprenticeship, you will receive structured training and mentoring, giving you the opportunity to build your confidence and develop the skills required to lead activities under appropriate supervision. You will also attend team meetings, training sessions, and apprenticeship learning activities as part of your professional development.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about sport, enjoys working with children and young people, and is eager to learn, develop, and contribute as part of a supportive and energetic team.

- Carry out the tasks required before, during, and after a community activity.
- Support participants to overcome personal or societal barriers.
- Manage individuals' behaviours within a group setting.
- Work collaboratively with services and other community organisations to run events that make the best use of resources.
- Record and store data and information, in line with legislation and organisational policies and procedures.
- Use suitable digital technology to deliver targeted messages to participant groups.
- Adapt communication methods to meet the needs of participants and groups.
- Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns within the own scope of role and in line with organisational protocols.
- Support equity, diversity, and inclusion in line with legislation and organisational policies.
- Support the mental health and wellbeing of self and participants.
- Comply with health and safety legislation, regulations, risk assessment procedures, guidelines, and procedures.
- Participate in personal and professional development.
- Maintain professional boundaries within the scope of the own role.
- Monitor and review the effectiveness of activity sessions.
- Assist with the resolution of challenges and problems.

Desirable qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English (grade 4/C or above or equivalent)
- Maths (grade 4/C or above or equivalent)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
Other requirements
Appointment is subject to satisfactory references, an enhanced DBS check, and right-to-work checks. Applicants must be willing to work evenings and weekends, undertake cleaning and equipment duties, participate in physical activities, and travel to other AAAsports venues in Sunderland when required.
AAAsports was established following the growth of AAA Trampoline Club, founded in 2007. We now provide Gymnastics, Trampoline, DMT, Cheerleading, Freestyle, and Pre-School Classes for Members of all ages and abilities. Our main centre is based in Southwick, Sunderland, with additional Classes delivered at other venues across the local area. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment where Members can develop confidence, skills, and a lifelong love of sport. Our Team includes experienced Coaches, apprentices, and support staff who work together across coaching, Member services, events, administration, and facility operations. We place a strong focus on training and development, helping Team Members build their skills, gain qualifications, and progress within the organisation.
