Sports Coach Apprentice – Preston Park Primary School
Preston Park Primary School, a vibrant and inclusive educational community in Wembley, is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join us as a Sports Coach Apprentice. Located close to the iconic Wembley Stadium, Preston Park is an innovative school where learning is at the heart of everything we do.
Our devoted staff team is committed to developing the whole child and supporting pupils from a wide range of backgrounds to achieve their full potential. With approximately 700 children on roll and over 45 languages spoken across the school, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming and diverse environment for all.

Apprenticeship Summary
- Salary: £8.00
- Working Week: Monday–Friday, 9:00am–3:30pm
- Hours: 30 hours per week
- Training: Online apprenticeship training supported by skilled tutors
- Qualification: Level 3 Teaching Assistant – Sports Pathway standard
- Location: Preston Park Primary School, College Road, Wembley, HA9 8RJ
- Start Date: September 2026
The Role
We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Sports Coach Apprentice to support the delivery of high-quality PE and school sport provision across the school. You will work closely with teaching staff to deliver PE lessons, lunchtime activities, sports competitions, and school sporting events, helping children develop positive lifelong habits and an enjoyment of physical activity.
This role provides practical experience within a supportive school environment and is ideal for anyone wanting to begin a career in sports coaching or education. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop your understanding of physical education, school sport, and physical activity, while gaining hands-on experience supporting teachers, leading activities, and encouraging children to participate confidently and safely in sport.

Main Duties
- Support school staff in delivering high-quality PE and school sports sessions.
- Help develop and lead school sports teams.
- Assist with preparing for and attending school sports competitions and fixtures.
- Support sports days, competitions, and other sporting events.
- Help identify and support talented individuals within lessons.
- Promote and celebrate sporting achievements across the school.
- Provide one-to-one support for pupils with SEN or disabilities where appropriate and under supervision.
- Support joint working with external organisations and partners.
- Assist with setting up, taking down, and storing sports equipment.
- Complete and maintain appropriate data and administrative tasks associated with the role.
- Promote health and wellbeing through physical activity.
- Support equality, diversity, and inclusive participation in PE and school sport.
- Undertake training and duties required to complete the apprenticeship programme.
- Act as a strong, positive role model for pupils and staff.
- Support pupils during lunchtimes and breaktimes.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection procedures.
- Support the wider aims, values, and ethos of Preston Park Primary School.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role.

The Candidate

You will also have:
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, child development
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, behaviour management strategies
- The ability to communicate clearly and break down information effectively
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to help organise activities
- Good organisational skills
- GCSE English and Maths at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent)
- Some experience working with children (desirable)
- Some sports coaching experience or qualifications (desirable)
Training and Development
During your apprenticeship, you will receive:
- Formal study towards a Level 3 Teaching Assistant – Sports Pathway standard qualification
- On-the-job training from experienced school staff
- Regular reviews to support your progress and development
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
For the right candidate, there may be opportunities for continued employment within the school or progression into sports coaching, teaching assistant roles, or further study in sport and education.
