About the Role
Ever wondered who actually engineers everything underneath the pitch at a major stadium? The drainage. Irrigation. Undersoil heating. Ventilation. Water infrastructure. Monitoring systems. All the engineering that has to come together perfectly to create a playing surface capable of performing at the highest level of sport - that’s what this role is about.
I’m working with a specialist international consultancy looking for a Sports Infrastructure Design Lead to work on the design and delivery of stadiums, elite training facilities and Field of Play projects across the UK and internationally. And here’s the interesting bit, you don’t need to have worked in sport before.
If you’re an experienced Civil, MEP, Building Services, water or infrastructure design professional who knows how to coordinate complex engineering designs, this is an opportunity to take those skills into a completely different world, Engineering for elite sport.
A modern stadium pitch is far more technically complex than the grass you see on matchday. Below and around the playing surface sits an interconnected network of drainage, irrigation, heating, ventilation, monitoring, utilities and other infrastructure – all of which needs to integrate with the wider stadium architecture, structures, Civils, MEP and landscape design. You’ll be the person helping bring all of that together.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
