Wage
- £16,432 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age
- National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices
- Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)
- £8 per hour for the first year. After that, it will increase to the National Minimum Wage for your age group.
Training course
- Teaching assistant (level 3)
Hours
- Monday to Friday (8.00am to 4.00pm, earlier finish on Fridays at 3.30pm).
- 39 hours 30 minutes a week

What you'll do at work
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Sports Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join our dynamic Physical Education (PE) department at Wrenn School. This role is ideal for someone passionate about sports and education and looking to gain hands-on experience while working towards a recognised Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification in supporting PE in schools.
As a Sports Teaching Assistant Apprentice, you will support the PE teachers in delivering high-quality sports and physical education lessons, help manage after-school sports clubs and assist with the organisation of school sports events and competitions. You will work closely with students across various age groups and abilities, encouraging them to develop their skills, teamwork, and a love for sports.
- Be able to communicate effectively with young people
- Work well within a team
- Have an understanding and commitment in delivering the PE National Curriculum
- Be able to demonstrate evidence of subject knowledge and expertise within sport and physical education
- Show an understanding for skill progression
- Confidence and competence to lead small groups of children during lessons and at break and lunchtimes and in clubs
- Knowledge and understanding of how to safely use and maintain sporting equipment
- A commitment to supporting and enhancing the school’s sporting and healthy lifestyle profile
- Support positive behaviour within lessons and throughout school
- Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of good primary practice
- Ability to critically self-evaluate practices as a tool for improvement
- Be able to demonstrate good organisational skills
- Show a good level of computer/technology literacy

- Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
- Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
- Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
- Apply methods of formative assessment.
- Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
- Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
- Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
- Provide feedback to learners.

Requirements
Essential qualifications
- GCSE in:
- Maths and English (grade 4)
