Our client in the Information Technology and Services industry is looking for a SQL Database Administrator Lead to act as a subject matter expert for Azure and on-premises Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL environments. The successful candidate will support enterprise-level database operations across production, UAT, and development environments, ensuring database performance, availability, and security. This role will be based full time in a secure room in Manchester.
What you will do:
- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases across production, UAT, and development environments.
- Manage database clustering, replication, backups, and performance tuning.
- Provide third-line database support and resolve incidents through call management systems.
- Perform planned releases, patching, and upgrades across database environments.
- Monitor and optimise database performance, including space management and alert log checks.
- Support Azure VM and Windows Server environments relevant to database operations.
- Create, maintain, and deploy SSIS packages through SQL Server Integration Services.
- Troubleshoot Power BI Report Server access and performance issues.
- Perform Power BI Report Server upgrades and install SSL certificates.
- Monitor database environments using SCOM and/or Azure Monitor.
- Manage database-related incidents and requests through ServiceNow or similar ITIL systems.
- Mentor junior DBAs and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.
- Apply PowerShell capabilities to support database administration activities, where applicable.

Qualifications
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or later, including T-SQL, stored procedures, and triggers.
- Demonstrate experience supporting Azure VMs, Windows Server, and Azure DevOps environments.
- Demonstrate expertise in creating, maintaining, and deploying SSIS packages through SQL Server Integration Services.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Power BI Report Server, including access and performance troubleshooting, upgrades, and SSL certificate installation.
- Possess basic working knowledge of SCOM and/or Azure Monitor.
- Bring experience working with ServiceNow or a similar ITIL system.
- Demonstrate proficiency in MySQL database administration, including clustering, replication, backups, performance tuning, and monitoring.
- Possess PowerShell skills, preferably.
- Hold Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate certification or equivalent, preferably.
- Hold ITIL Foundation certification, preferably.
- Be available to work fully onsite in a secure room in Manchester.
- Be able to satisfy BPSS and SC-equivalent account-specific vetting requirements.
- Be able to work on a PAYE basis through an umbrella company.
