About The Role

We are seeking an experienced SQL Developer to join our dynamic product development team at Picture More. This hybrid role based in the UK offers an exciting opportunity to work on a large-scale Azure SQL environment that is integral to our business-critical software platform. As a key member of the engineering team, you will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and evolving our SQL infrastructure to ensure high performance, scalability, and reliability. Your expertise will be instrumental in troubleshooting complex database issues, enhancing query performance, and contributing to the ongoing modernization of our SQL estate.

This role requires a hands-on approach, with a focus on resolving performance bottlenecks, implementing best practices, and collaborating closely with software engineers and other stakeholders to deliver robust database solutions. Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in SQL Server and Azure SQL Database, complemented by proven experience in performance tuning and query optimization. You should have excellent T-SQL skills, including the development of stored procedures, functions, and complex queries. A good understanding of SQL Server internals, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting production issues is essential. Experience working within Agile development teams and a proactive problem-solving attitude are highly valued. Strong communication skills are necessary to effectively collaborate across teams and document solutions. Candidates should hold relevant certifications or degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain complex T-SQL stored procedures, functions, and queries to support application requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve SQL performance issues by analyzing execution plans and utilizing performance analysis tools.
  • Optimize queries, indexing strategies, and overall database performance to ensure system efficiency and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot locking, blocking, and other SQL Server performance problems to minimize downtime and improve responsiveness.
  • Support database deployment activities across Development, Test, and Production environments, ensuring smooth releases and updates.
  • Collaborate with software engineering teams to design and implement scalable and reliable database solutions aligned with project goals.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement and modernization of the Azure SQL platform, adopting best practices and new technologies.
  • Monitor database health, security, and compliance, implementing necessary measures to safeguard data assets.
