The Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior SQL Server Developer to join at an exciting stage in the company's growth journey. As a private equity-backed business with a small but highly capable team, this is a unique opportunity to take ownership of critical data systems while helping shape the future of a modern data platform.
Working closely with an established SQL/Technical Architect who has already built much of the organisation's data lake, API integration framework and ingestion platform, you will initially act as their number two, supporting strategic decision-making, sharing technical ownership and mentoring an existing SQL Developer.
Over time, this role is expected to evolve into a peer-level architectural position, offering the opportunity to influence the wider data strategy, contribute to the platform roadmap and play a key role in the continued modernisation of the company's data capabilities.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on SQL development, performance optimisation and database engineering with architecture, mentoring and strategic platform development.
The Role
You'll be joining a business where SQL sits at the heart of the technology estate. The environment combines business-critical legacy systems with a modern data platform built from the ground up, creating a varied role that spans operational support, optimisation, architecture and platform evolution.
You'll work across:
- SQL Server development and optimisation
- Database architecture and design
- Data lake and data warehouse technologies
- API integrations and ingestion frameworks
- Real-time data processing environments
- Azure-based SQL platforms
- Data platform modernisation initiatives

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, operating end-to-end and making a visible impact within a smaller organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support, maintain and optimise business-critical SQL Server environments
- Work closely with the Technical Architect on platform design, architecture and future roadmap initiatives
- Design and enhance data models, database structures and platform architecture
- Improve performance, scalability and reliability across SQL-based systems
- Develop and enhance data ingestion processes, APIs and integrations
- Contribute to ongoing modernisation of legacy applications and databases
- Support the development and evolution of the organisation's data lake and analytics capabilities
- Mentor and support junior and mid-level developers
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to identify and deliver data platform improvements
- Help shape the future direction of the company's data estate
About You
You'll be an experienced SQL professional who enjoys working in smaller, fast-moving organisations where ownership, initiative and collaboration are highly valued.
You'll be comfortable operating without extensive structure or layers of management and enjoy wearing multiple hats when needed. Rather than being a specialist within a large team, you'll thrive on having broad technical responsibility and influencing key decisions.
Most importantly, you'll be a strong cultural fit, someone who can work collaboratively with a close-knit team while also taking ownership and driving things forward independently.
