We are currently recruiting for an experienced Production DBA (SQL Server) to join a leading UK Financial organisation on an initial 3 month contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled SQL Server professional to take ownership of a large-scale production database estate, ensuring the availability, performance, security and resilience of business-critical systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting live production environments, resolving database incidents, improving performance and working closely with infrastructure, engineering and development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support and administration of enterprise Microsoft SQL Server production environments.
- Monitor database health, performance and availability, responding to incidents and issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production database problems, including performance issues, blocking and failed processes.
- Carry out SQL Server performance tuning, optimisation and capacity management activities.
- Manage database backups, restores and disaster recovery processes.
- Support SQL Server patching, upgrades, maintenance and configuration activities.
- Maintain database security, access controls and operational standards.
- Work with infrastructure, engineering and development teams to provide technical guidance and support.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, automation and improvements to database resilience.

Skills & Experience Required
- Strong commercial experience as a SQL Server DBA supporting production environments.
- Extensive experience administering Microsoft SQL Server within an enterprise environment.
- Proven experience troubleshooting live database issues and managing production incidents.
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server performance tuning and optimisation.
- Experience with backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes.
- Experience supporting high availability environments (e.g. SQL Server Always On, clustering, replication).
- Strong understanding of Windows Server environments and enterprise infrastructure.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Experience
- Experience working within Financial Services or another regulated industry.
- Azure SQL / cloud database experience.
- PowerShell or database automation experience.
- Experience working within Agile, DevOps or modern engineering environments.
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and production support practices.
