Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Data Team Lead to lead and develop our client’s database and data engineering capability. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with team leadership and project delivery responsibility.
The successful candidate will manage a team of SQL and database professionals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality data solutions, database performance, reliability, and project outcomes that support business objectives.
Job Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the SQL/Database team.
- Manage workload allocation, priorities, and team performance.
- Act as the technical escalation point for database-related issues.
- Design, develop, and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and database solutions.
- Ensure database performance, integrity, security, and availability.
- Drive best practice in database development, administration, and governance.
- Partner with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
- Manage project plans, delivery timelines, risks, and dependencies.
- Coordinate resources to ensure successful project delivery.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation and standards.
- Identify opportunities for automation, optimisation, and process improvement.

Required Skills & Experience
- Strong SQL Server experience and advanced SQL knowledge.
- Strong database administration and database design knowledge.
- Proven experience leading or mentoring technical teams.
- Experience managing multiple projects and delivery timelines.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimisation.
- Understanding of backup, recovery, security, and data governance principles.
- Experience within Retail Banking or Financial Services preferred.
