Quest Global are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Advance Manufacturing Engineer to lead and support manufacturing process improvements, new product introductions and production optimisation initiatives. This role will focus on driving continuous improvement, ensuring product quality, and supporting cross-functional teams to meet cost, delivery, and quality objectivities.
Key Responsibilities
- To provide technical guidance and problem-solving skills to the manufacturing and assembly teams to help ensure the build quality and relevant standards are achieved and attained in line with the overall programme schedule
- To be the communication line between manufacturing/assembly and engineering ensuring clear and accurate direction is given to the relevant teams
- To be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for gear profile generation (hobbing, shaping, and profile grinding) and finish grinding (journals & cones/ thrust faces), liaising between the Design Engineering team and the machine tool operators.
- To provide guidance of manufacturability of components and capability of the machine tools to ensure a right first time approach is achievable and to support the design projects in design reviews, providing clear input
- To lead PFMEAs; incl. process mapping, risk mitigation and creation/ approval of procedures and protocols
- Lead make-versus-buy assessments for complex machined components based on capability, cost, capacity, risk and certification constraints.
- Define manufacturing routes and process assumptions for new and modified designs.
- Provide manufacturing sign-off at design gates (PDR, CDR, release to manufacture).
- To identify and design bespoke methods and tooling ensuring the relevant Machinery Safety regulations are maintained
- Assess supplier machining capability (number of axis, deep hole drilling, gear cutting, grinding, heat treatment, NDT, etc.).
- Evaluate machine tools, fixturing strategies, metrology, and process control maturity.
- Validate that suppliers can achieve tolerance, surface finish, material condition and geometric control at scale.
- Perform supplier technical audits and manufacturing readiness reviews (MRR).
- Work closely with representatives from other internal functions, e.g. manufacturing, design engineering and quality and external parties as required (i.e. supply chain, auditors)
- To create works orders and collate tech packs with accurate routings and operations
- To have a good understanding of the implications and practices associated with heat treatment processes
- Define critical characteristics, process controls and inspection strategies.
- Identify manufacturing risks (process capability, tooling, distortion, yield, rework, scrap).
- Support PFMEA, control plans and first-article inspection strategies.
- Support supplier onboarding and part industrialisation from prototype to series production.
- Validate machining strategies, tooling plans and inspection methods prior to release.
- To interpret technical drawings and create/ manufacturing drawings
- To ensure planning and process encompass the Quality Assurance requirements

Work Experience
Required Skills (Technical Competency):
- Digital measurement methodology, there will be a requirement to develop programmes to automate the post process of measurement data sets and implement training in the use of these tools to the production and quality teams
- Working knowledge of the manufacturing methods of rotating components including, but not limited to, turning, boring and milling
- Working knowledge of engineering, manufacturing techniques
- Detailed understanding of dimensional measurement systems and principles
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and create/ approve stage manufacturing drawings
- Review drawings, GD&T, materials and finishes for manufacturability and inspection viability.
- Challenge design assumptions that drive cost, lead time or yield risk.
- Work directly with design engineers to simplify geometry, tighten or relax tolerances and improve producibility.
Requirements
- Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Previous experience in a similar role within the Aerospace and Defense industry.
- Experience in heavy engineering industry, power transmission systems, gears and gear box
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001)
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems and standards.
- Proficient in root cause analysis and failure mode analysis techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on team, quality and continuous improvement.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
