Crude Operations Specialist | Energy Trading | London
Location: London
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: Up to £70-80k + Bonus & Benefits
Working Arrangement: Hybrid
We’re partnering with an established international energy trading business looking to hire a Crude Operations Specialist into its London trading operation.
The role sits within a dedicated crude operations team supporting physical crude trading activity, with a particular focus on North Sea cargoes.
You’ll work closely with traders, shipping, scheduling, credit, middle office, legal, finance and other teams across the full physical trading lifecycle.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end operational management of physical crude cargoes, ensuring transactions are executed efficiently from nomination through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing physical crude operations across North Sea and international cargoes
- Handling vessel nominations, voyage orders, documentary instructions, Letters of Credit, cargo insurance and vessel clearance
- Managing nominations of loading dates and quantities and coordinating directly with terminals
- Managing operational and contractual aspects of BFOETM paper and chain activity
- Working across equity, third-party and traded crude cargoes
- Coordinating with terminals, refineries, inspection companies, counterparties and internal trading teams
- Supporting the management and resolution of demurrage, freight differentials, deviation costs and dead freight
- Identifying and resolving operational issues while minimizing potential costs and disruption

What They’re Looking For
You should have experience within crude oil operations and a good understanding of the physical oil trading lifecycle.
Exposure to the following would be particularly relevant:
- North Sea crude operations
- BFOETM terms and chain activity
- Spot and term crude contracts and lifting agreements
- Cargo, voyage and time charter operations
- Cargo documentation, Bills of Lading, inspections, Letters of Credit, voyage orders and customs
- Working directly with terminals, inspection companies and trading counterparties

You’ll also need excellent attention to detail and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across trading, operations and external counterparties in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
Package
- Base salary: Up to £80,000 depending on experience
- Bonus: Discretionary annual bonus
- Pension: 10% employer contribution
- Healthcare: Private medical insurance
- Additional benefits: Approximately £1,400 annual lunch allowance, critical illness cover and life assurance
- Hybrid working: 8 WFH days per month
