Your New Role
As a Sr Data Engineering Professional, you will play a key role in developing and advancing data pipelines & products that support early research activities. You will work at the intersection of engineering excellence and scientific understanding, helping data scientists & researchers utilise complex datasets more effectively.
Your Primary Responsibilities Will Include
- Engineer trusted, analysis-ready biological data solutions for computational biologists, statistical genetisists, data scientists, AI/ML engineers in the context of target & biomarker discovery
- Build and operationalise Omics data products and analytical workflows across transcriptomics, single-cell omics, CRISPR/functional genomics, proteomics and multi-omics datasets
- Build and maintain Statistical Genetics pipelines, including GWAS ingestion/harmonisation, variant annotation, fine-mapping, colocalisation, Mendelian randomisation, gene burden testing and genetics-driven target prioritisation workflows
- Assure data quality, reproducibility, traceability and compliance through automated validation, monitoring, lineage, testing, release management and data governance practices
- Contributing to the development of future-state data platform architecture and engineering best practices within the team
Success in this role means becoming one of the recognised experts for your product area, building strong partnerships across functions, and helping shape a scalable data ecosystem that enables scientific innovation.
Your New Department
You will join Bio Data & AI Engineering within Data Foundations & Engineering (DFE) as part of the larger AI & Digital Innovation (ADI) organisation within R&D at Novo Nordisk, and you will work with talented and dedicated colleagues across the UK, Denmark and US.

ADI’s core mission is to speed up development, improve precision, and strengthen R&D by embedding AI, data science, and data at the heart of drug discovery and development. This includes accelerating the pipeline through computational methods and digital innovation.
By leveraging data and AI, we aim to quickly identify drug candidates, reduce development time and costs, and better serve patients in line with Novo Nordisk’s goals.
Based in our modern King's Cross office in London, you will work alongside colleagues across Data Engineering, Data Science, AI, and research functions. Together, you will help drive the evolution of data-driven research capabilities across Novo Nordisk.
Your Skills & Qualifications
To succeed in this role, we imagine that you have:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistical Genetics, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related relevant field
- Significant hands-on experience in data engineering, bioinformatics engineering, statistical genetics engineering, or related fields
- Demonstrated hands-on experience building and operating production data pipelines for specialised Omics and/or Genetics datasets
- Proficiency in cloud computing, data/scripting programming languages and workflow orchestration technologies (e.g. Python, R, Bash, SQL, Nextflow, Airflow, Databricks, etc.)
- Demonstrated expertise in ETL processes, data pipelines, metadata harmonisation, data lifecycle management, data product release processes and operational support
- Experience operationalising analytical workflows such as differential expression, gene set/pathway enrichment, single-cell analysis, CRISPR screen analytics, GWAS harmonisation, fine-mapping, colocalisation, etc.
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise in data modelling, scientific metadata design, lineage, quality controls and efficient fit-for-purpose biological database designs
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and scientific audiences
Moreover, you thrive in environments with evolving processes and distributed ownership structures, demonstrating pragmatism, collaboration, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
