TITLE: Sr. Data Scientist
LOCATION: New York City or London, UK
SALARY: $160,000 - $180,000 base + bonus (based on NYC, will be adjusted for geo)
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Data Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of private markets and alternative investments, coupled with a strong ability to visualize complex data and communicate insights effectively. As a Data Scientist at Canoe, you will play a crucial role in mining our large data corpus for new, unique, and compelling insights related to the $10 Trillion alternative investment market.
What You’ll Do:
- Utilize advanced SQL skills and AI tools to extract, manipulate, and analyze data from various sources.
- Analyze and interpret complex data sets related to private markets and alternative investments.
- Develop and implement data models and algorithms to uncover insights and trends.
- Create compelling and easy-to-understand data visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and build data-driven products and solutions.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data science, finance, and technology.
- Work with the Product and Machine Learning teams to develop new strategies for data extraction from unstructured text such as PDF’s.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist, with a focus on private markets and alternative investments.
- Strong executive presence, with the ability to instill confidence in senior stakeholders and represent the organization with credibility and polish.
- Expertise in SQL and Python.
- An understanding of performance measurement for private market investments including drawdown funds, hedge funds, private debt, direct investments in private companies, and other illiquid assets.
- Experience working with large and complex datasets.
- Strong skills in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, D3.js) and techniques.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create clear and concise reports and documentation.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Solid understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field.

Preferred:
- Experience with AWS, Snowflake, Postgres, and MySQL.
- Familiarity with financial modeling and investment analysis.
- Experience building and launching B2B products.
- Experience building products with LLMs, and using AI agents to automate processes.
- Experience working with Data Engineering teams to clean and productionize data pipelines.
- An understanding of fund accounting and forecasting models.
- Experience working in family office, institutional investor or PE/VC environment.
