Position Overview: Back End Engineer

The Back End Engineer plays a key role in supporting and improving back-end production processes across regional manufacturing sites. This position provides technical expertise for installations, audits, troubleshooting, maintenance optimization, best practice implementation, innovation initiatives, and capital projects. The role partners closely with plant leadership, engineering teams, suppliers, and global engineering stakeholders to ensure operational excellence, process standardization, and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing engineering expertise to support capital projects, process improvements, efficiency enhancements, and spoilage reduction initiatives within Back End operations.
  • Supporting manufacturing plants with technical problem-solving, equipment optimization, and implementation of best operating practices.
  • Driving process and maintenance standardization for Decorators, Inside Sprays, Neckers, and Palletisers across regional sites.
  • Ensuring manufacturing facilities remain informed about the latest process technologies, maintenance standards, and industry best practices.
  • Assisting plants in achieving operational, production, quality, and cost performance targets.
  • Preparing detailed technical reports following site visits, audits, investigations, and support activities.
  • Collaborating with equipment suppliers and OEM partners to support equipment performance, maintenance strategies, and process improvements.
  • Delivering technical training and guidance to plant engineering and production personnel.
  • Identifying root causes of maintenance cost overruns and implementing sustainable corrective actions.
  • Managing and supporting small-scale engineering and plant improvement projects.
  • Working closely with Global Engineering teams to establish, review, and implement maintenance standards and best practices.

What Are We Looking For?

  • Degree, qualification, or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical processes related to the back end of a two-piece beverage can manufacturing plant.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating within international and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience leading technical projects and coordinating engineering activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Additional European languages would be considered an advantage.
  • Self-motivated, self-managing approach with a strong focus on delivering results.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, operational excellence, and knowledge sharing.
