About The Role

As a Golang Engineer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance backend services that power the global Loyalty and Benefits platform at American Express — delivering meaningful experiences to millions of customers worldwide. You will be a valued member of a high-impact engineering team and work collaboratively with cross-functional engineers, architects, and stakeholders to deliver exceptional software solutions.

In This Role, You Will

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend services and APIs using Go (Golang), building scalable and resilient components for a globally significant Loyalty and Benefits platform.
  • Build and maintain event-driven systems and data pipelines using Apache Kafka, ensuring reliable and scalable message processing across distributed services.
  • Work with PostgreSQL databases to design, optimise, and maintain data models and queries that support high-performance, production-grade applications.
  • Containerise and orchestrate services using Docker, supporting consistent and repeatable deployment pipelines, and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes within an agile delivery environment.
  • Collaborate in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and cross-team engineering discussions, upholding the highest standards of code quality, performance, and engineering best practices.

What You Need To Have To Be Considered

  • Strong hands-on experience with Go (Golang) for building scalable, production-grade backend services and APIs.
  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including database design, query optimisation, and performance tuning.
  • Strong experience with Apache Kafka for building event-driven, distributed architectures and data streaming pipelines.
  • Strong experience with Git-based version control tools including GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, or SVN.
  • Good experience with Docker for containerisation and supporting CI/CD deployment pipelines.
  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Candidates must currently reside in the United Kingdom.
