Senior Linux Automation & Platform Engineer
Location: Hybrid - London (2-3 days onsite)
Contract Length: 12 Months
Rate: Up to £400 per day
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Automation & Platform Engineer to join a high-performing technology team supporting critical enterprise platforms and production services. This role will focus on Linux administration, automation, platform engineering, and production support within a large-scale enterprise environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining platform stability, driving automation initiatives, and improving operational efficiency across business-critical systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, automating repetitive processes, and working closely with both technical and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, support, and enhance enterprise Linux platforms across production and non-production environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex Linux infrastructure and application issues.
- Design, develop, and maintain automation scripts and tooling to improve operational efficiency.
- Support and maintain business-critical production applications and services.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure platform reliability and performance.
- Participate in platform upgrades, patching, maintenance activities, and system improvements.
- Work within CI/CD pipelines to support application releases and infrastructure changes.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures to reduce recurring incidents.
- Support monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity management activities.
- Document technical processes, standards, and operational procedures.

Required Skills & Experience
- Strong Linux administration experience, ideally with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or similar enterprise Linux distributions.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within Linux environments.
- Strong scripting and automation experience using:
- Python
- Perl
- Bash
- Korn Shell (KSH)
- Experience supporting and maintaining production applications and services.
- Good understanding of Git-based development workflows.
- Experience working with CI/CD tools such as:
- Jenkins
- GitLab CI/CD
- Similar automation platforms
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- Network connectivity troubleshooting
- Experience working independently and managing competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Skills
- Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
- Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools.
- Experience working within regulated, financial services, or large enterprise environments.
