Location

Oxford area (Milton Park, Oxfordshire, UK) – This is a full-time, on-site position based at a customer laboratory. Candidates should be within a reasonable commuting distance of the Oxford area or be willing to relocate, as regular on-site presence is required.

The Role

Join our collaborative team as a Senior Site Specialist within Unity Lab Services. Working directly at our customer's laboratory in Milton Park, Oxfordshire, you will play a critical role in supporting researchers and scientists by delivering high-quality laboratory support services.

You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of laboratory services, including inventory management, laboratory logistics, equipment coordination, and customer support. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic laboratory environment while providing exceptional service and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day laboratory support to ensure uninterrupted scientific operations.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, stock replenishment, and materials management.
  • Coordinate laboratory logistics and equipment maintenance activities.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service while building strong relationships with laboratory staff.
  • Support laboratory safety and compliance by following GMP/GLP standards and site procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and inventory records using laboratory management systems.
  • Handle chemical inventory and waste management processes where required.
  • Collaborate with researchers, scientists, and internal Thermo Fisher teams to continuously improve service delivery.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a laboratory environment and/or customer service role.
  • Degree or background in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using inventory management systems and handheld scanners.
  • Knowledge of GMP/GLP environments and laboratory safety procedures is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a professional and collaborative approach.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull 30–40 lbs (14–18 kg) regularly and up to 50 lbs (23 kg) occasionally.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and work in varying laboratory environments.
  • Willingness to wear required PPE, including laboratory coats, safety glasses, and safety footwear.
  • Flexibility to work overtime when required.
  • Valid driving licence may be required for certain activities.
  • IATA/DOT certification and bilingual language skills are considered advantageous.
  • Experience operating material handling equipment (such as pallet jacks and pushcarts) is beneficial.
