About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Developer to join Raytheon in a pivotal role supporting the Army Collective Training Service (ACTS) programme. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the modernization of military training systems, ensuring the British Army remains at the forefront of defense readiness. As a Senior Software Developer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and cloud-native applications that underpin the British Army's collective training capabilities. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including software leads, architects, and engineers, to deliver resilient solutions that meet strategic objectives. The role involves integrating legacy systems with modern platforms, leveraging cloud services such as AWS, Azure, and MODCloud (OCP), and adopting best practices in software engineering to support the long-term success of the programme.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of two years of experience in full-stack software development, demonstrating proficiency with modern frontend frameworks like React or Angular, and backend technologies such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, or.NET Core/.NET 5+. Experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes is essential. Candidates should have a strong understanding of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or Oracle, with practical experience deploying and managing cloud-native applications. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps, along with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, is required. Additionally, experience with static and dynamic code analysis tools such as SonarQube or Snyk, and RESTful API development and integration, is highly desirable. Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain current SC security clearance and demonstrate excellent communication skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Build secure, high-performance backend services utilizing languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, or.NET Core/.NET 5+.
  • Integrate APIs, databases, and third-party services to ensure seamless data flow and interoperability across systems.
  • Develop intuitive frontend interfaces using modern frameworks like React or Angular, ensuring usability and responsiveness.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable cloud-native solutions, leveraging services from AWS, Azure, or MODCloud, with a focus on resilience and security.
  • Containerize applications using Docker and orchestrate deployments with Kubernetes, ensuring consistency across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Automate build, test, and deployment workflows using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps to facilitate continuous integration and delivery.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation to streamline infrastructure provisioning and management.
  • Support agile planning and estimation activities, contributing to sprint planning and backlog refinement.
  • Conduct peer code reviews to uphold coding standards, optimize performance, and ensure maintainability, utilizing static analysis tools such as SonarQube.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance code quality, development processes, and team collaboration.
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive automated testing frameworks covering unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Incorporate observability practices by integrating logging, metrics, and tracing to monitor system health and performance.
  • Stay informed of emerging technologies and industry trends, applying relevant innovations to enhance system capabilities.
  • Monitor and respond to security vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with security standards such as OWASP and NIST, and implementing best practices for security management.
