About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Developer to join Raytheon’s dynamic team working on transformative defense projects. This role is integral to the development and integration of software solutions that underpin the Army Collective Training Service (ACTS) programme. As a Senior Software Developer, you will be responsible for building scalable, secure, and cloud-native applications that support the strategic objectives of the British Army’s training modernization efforts. You will work in a collaborative, high-impact environment, reporting to the Software Lead, and will play a key role in shaping the future of military collective training capabilities.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to national defense initiatives, leveraging modern development practices, cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, and containerization technologies. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including architects, engineers, and stakeholders, to deliver resilient and innovative software solutions that enhance operational readiness and effectiveness.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in full-stack software development, with proficiency in modern frontend frameworks such as React or Angular, and backend technologies like Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, or .NET Core/.NET 5+. Experience with containerization tools like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes is essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of cloud services, especially with AWS, Azure, or Oracle, including deploying and managing cloud-native applications.

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps is required. Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation is also necessary. Additionally, experience with static and dynamic code analysis tools like SonarQube and Snyk, and RESTful API development is highly desirable. Candidates must hold or be eligible to obtain a current SC security clearance. Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain secure, high-performance backend services utilizing languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, or.NET.
  • Integrate APIs, databases, and third-party services to ensure seamless data flow and system interoperability.
  • Develop and enhance frontend interfaces using modern frameworks like React or Angular to provide intuitive user experiences.
  • Architect scalable, cloud-first solutions leveraging cloud-native services and infrastructure, ensuring systems are resilient and maintainable.
  • Containerize applications using Docker and orchestrate deployments with Kubernetes, including Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Automate build, test, and deployment workflows through CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or Azure DevOps.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices with tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to facilitate consistent and repeatable infrastructure provisioning.
  • Support agile planning, estimation, and development cycles, participating in peer code reviews to uphold coding standards, optimize performance, and ensure maintainability.
  • Establish and maintain automated testing frameworks for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Build observability into systems through logging, metrics, and tracing, enabling proactive system monitoring and performance tuning.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, and respond promptly to security vulnerabilities, ensuring compliance with standards such as OWASP and NIST.
  • Collaborate with team members to continuously improve development workflows and software quality.
