Sr Stress Mechanical Engineer Honeywell Aerospace | Yeovil, UK | Hybrid Role (3 days office, 2 days remote)
About the Role
The Turbomachinery and Heat Exchanger Analysis and Design team within Mechanical Systems and Components (MS&C) focuses on designing, developing, and analysing Environmental Control System (ECS) turbomachinery, heat exchangers, as well as emergency oxygen backup systems.
As a Sr Stress Mechanical Engineer, you’ll spearhead stress assessment, vibration analysis, and heat transfer evaluations—bridging theoretical expertise with practical problem-solving across diverse projects. Key work involves:
- Driving extractive stress, vibration, and thermo-fluid analyses using both finite element modelling (e.g., ANSYS) and classical hand-calculation methods.
- Providing technical leadership across global engineering teams, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Mentoring junior engineers, contributing to design reviews, and engaging with internal/external stakeholders through presentations and risk management.
- Championing process improvements while meeting product lifecycle goals.
Key Responsibilities
-
Stress and Vibration Analysis
- Perform linear/static, nonlinear/elasto-plastic, fatigue (HCF/LCF), modal, shock/impact, harmonic, random vibration, and fracture mechanics analyses—including crack growth assessments.
- Apply classical hand-calculations alongside ANSYS-based FEA for validation.
-
Thermal and Fluid Dynamics
- Execute heat transfer analysis (single-phase/multi-phase flows, thermodynamics), using analytical correlations and complex models.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
